Service Category: Drainage and Open Spaces
Duration: 2 months
Project Overview
Water sensitive urban design (WSUD) works for Knox City Council at Liberty Reserve, Rowville, across an 8,000 square metre area and 360 lineal metres of waterway. The scope took in extensive earthworks, a reset of the open swale, two concrete culvert crossovers for pedestrian access, handrail installation, renewal of the asphalt and concrete path, a new concrete path, large rock placement, and jute matting across the whole area for erosion control. Together the works green the existing waterway while keeping it working as it should.
Scope of Works
Extensive earthworks across approximately 8,000 square metres
Reset of the open swale over 360 lineal metres
Two concrete culvert crossovers
Handrail installation
Asphalt and concrete path renewal, plus a new concrete path
Large rock placement Jute matting for erosion control
Challenges
Working in and around an open waterway, where managing water through the site shaped how the earthworks and swale reset were carried out. The crew had to keep the waterway functioning and protected while reshaping it and laying erosion control across the full 8,000 square metres.
Outcome
A reshaped, greened waterway that residents have responded strongly to, standing as a good example of bringing an existing waterway back to life while keeping it doing its job.
